Class Projects

In my Message Development class, We were assigned a company to create a comprehensive campaign. The first step was to create a strategic messaging plan, designed to use my research skills and effectively communicate key facts, trends and features & benefits for the company.

The main project in my advanced strategic communications class was to create a strategic plan for a company. The topic this semester was “cannabis and student life”. The final project was to create an objective followed by an evaluation using PESO tactics and strategies. Throughout this project, I used secondary research and social media analytics to develop my own campaign. This course deepened my understanding of digital marketing, public relations and advertising. Here is an example of my first evaluation.

Evaluation of my proposed campaign

Objective #1: Increase the knowledge about CBD benefiting mental health issues for students by 30% at the end of 2024.

Evaluation: My strategy was to discuss the owner’s personal mental health experiences and capitalize on the benefits CBD has on mental health. My first tactic was to create a podcast episode that will be posted on the website under a podcast tab. The podcast will talk about the owners’ experiences and why he started using CBD for his mental health. To evaluate this tactic, I would first look at the number of streamers on the podcast, this will give me an idea of the initial reach and interest. I would also look at if the podcast was downloaded, this could help show the long-term interest and impact of the episode. To understand if the audience liked the podcast, I would look at the ratings it received.

The second tactic is to promote the new podcast on Instagram and Facebook. The caption would have a direct link to the podcast episode. I would then upload a follow-up post a couple days after, asking who has seen it and to provide feedback through direct messaging. I would monitor the engagement and the engagement rate with all the social media posts. I would also calculate the click-through rate since we included the direct link in the caption. I chose to post on both Instagram and Facebook to help increase the reach. While Instagram is still popular amongst college students, Facebook reaches an older demographic, especially parents. This could help broaden the engagement to more college students by increasing the reach to parents.

Since the objective is to increase knowledge about CBD, one podcast will only increase people’s awareness slightly. To help evaluate what people have learned, I would create a survey to put after my podcast and on the social media post. The survey will contain questions such as, before listening to the podcast how familiar were you with CBD and its potential benefits, after listening to the podcast how would you rate your understanding of CBD and where did you hear about this podcast? The first two questions would have a scale from 1-10. After analyzing the surveys, I would first look into click through rate from both the social media post and the podcast to see how many people went on to the survey. Then I would monitor how many people took the survey. I would listen to the feedback and get a better understanding of what the viewer liked, and thought was helpful. Listening to the feedback, I would then create more beneficial ways to learn about CBD to accomplish my objective.”

In my message development class, our task was to create a News release for the company we had been assigned, Suds & Eco. We had to create an informative, short story while following the inverted pyramid style. This assignment taught me how to tell a story and consider my target audience.

Suds & Eco and Keep Florida Beautiful Unite for Hurricane Relief Cleanup Efforts

St. Lucia, FL, October 12th - Suds & Eco, a Florida based sustainable hair company, and Keep Florida Beautiful announced a Seaside Sweep at Keaton Beach, FL, on October 26th, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m to help with the cleanup from the two hurricanes that hit Florida recently.

In the past couple of weeks, Florida has been hit with two hurricanes leaving individuals and communities heartbroken and the damages catastrophic. CNN reports that “Communities were cut off and stranded as floodwaters washed away hundreds of roads, buildings, homes and vehicles. Communication infrastructure is in shreds. Millions of people have also lost power and access to water across at least six states.”

Suds & Eco, a sustainable shampoo and conditioner bar company, is partnering up with a local non-profit organization, Keep Florida Beautiful, to distribute eco-friendly community cleanup kits, including hair and body care products, for hurricane victims. The Seaside Sweep will take place at Keaton Beach, FL, on October 26th, from 8:00 a.m to 8:00p.m.

“Our hearts go out to victims and survivors of the Hurricane Helene tragedy and to their families. Each of us as human beings has a responsibility to reach out to help those affected by this disaster” stated Sherry Carpenter, Executive Director of Keep Florida Beautiful.

Volunteers from both Suds & Eco and Keep Florida Beautiful will be working closely with community members to assist with clean up, damage, and resources. “We aim to reach 2,000 people in the hardest-hit communities in Florida and provide cleanup assistance and supplies. We just want to offer our support with some cleaning supplies and a helping hand” quotes ZeroWaste Store founder and CEO, Sarah Cieslinksi. People are welcome to donate money to the cause at Suds & Eco, Seaside sweep, where 100% of donations will go directly to supporting those affected by the hurricanes.

Adobe Software & Graphic Design

I am proficient in Adobe software and Canva projects, here are three graphic design examples. I enrolled in two technical courses, Graphic Design and Visual Design. I gained knowledge and experience in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, XD, Lightroom, Photoshop, and After Effects.

I designed this graphic for my sorority’s participation in Homecoming week, where we competed against other Greek organizations.

This postcard was for my graphic design tech tools class. I had to select various images and create a postcard to send to future Jayhawks.

This graphic was another assignment for my graphic design tech tools class. We had to create a logo for a company of your choosing. I decided to create my own coffee shop logo.
